The Story Behind Spēlē

​

My journey with Spēlē began when my best friend gifted me an exquisite pair of earrings,

she had found in a little shop in Latvia. They quickly became my absolute favourites.

Until, during a cheerful game with a Labrador named Bruno,

one of them mysteriously disappeared into his mischievous jaws.

I was left with one very beautiful, very lonely earring — and getting back to Latvia wasn't an option.

So, naturally, I decided to try and recreate it myself.

That little challenge opened the door to something much bigger.

My background in Garden Design has always shaped the way I see colour, form, texture and movement.

After 16 years of calling Cape Town home, I’ve also brought another creative passion into my world:

my experience as a makeup artist, where I learned that the smallest details can completely transform a look.

I love creating things that make people feel special — whether it’s a freshly designed garden, gorgeous makeup, or, in this case, beautiful leather and felt accessories to complement the look.

​

And that brings me to the name Spēlē, which means “To Play” in Latvian.

​

For me, playing is about curiosity and experimentation — seeing what texture works with a particular shape or colour, and giving myself the freedom to try something a little different.

I love creating pieces with personality and movement, from earrings designed as a left and right pair,

that complement the look in their own unique way.

Every Spēlē piece is made by me with that same spirit of playful creativity.

​

Because accessories don't always have to match perfectly.

Sometimes, they just need to make you feel fabulous.
